Methods of cooking
This is a passionate area of debate – how do I cook the great British Banger? I have memories of my Gran grilling them to death, over- frying them, or serving crispy offerings from Grandad’s BBQ!! Treat your sausage with a little bit of respect and you’ll become a convert!
Frying
This is the favourite for the Sunday breakfast or brunch. You only need one pan to cook the great British fry up of sausage, egg, bacon, mushrooms and tomato. It’s a family tradition and one that we’re loathe to relinquish. Many of our European neighbours love our breakfasts!
Grilling
This is a healthier option for the calorie-conscious. Use a medium heat to make sure the sausage is cooked through without burning the skin. Delicious and succulent!
Oven baked
For larger family meals or dinner parties, try oven baking the sausage. Place the sausage on a rack in a baking tray and bake on a medium heat until cooked. Succulent sausage cooked with the minimum of fuss and without the need to watch over them all the time! Oven baking is a great method if you want to add any veggies and turn it into a casserole.
Barbeque
Glorious sunshine, good friends, wine to share and a barbequed hot dog with all the trimmings! This is a recipe that you can’t go wrong with. And if the British weather doesn’t behave then at least the food and company will! There are many good books on how to BBQ safely, if you’re a BBQ addict it’s a good idea to buy one and get familiar with the cooking guidelines.
