Menu planning

Menu planning

When you plan your menu it’s good to take into account your family’s needs, or plan your menu according to your guests’ preferences.  There are so many varieties of sausage it’s easy to serve a successful meal that everyone will enjoy.

Family meal suggestions
Is your family a chips, sausage and beans family, a mash, sausage and peas or more of a sausage salad and plenty of veggies family?  Cooking a traditional pork sausage by different methods and serving different accompaniments completely change the meal.  Try experimenting with different flavoured sausage until you find everyone’s favourite.

BBQ’s
Spicy sausages or hot pork and chilli sausage are always favourites at an adult BBQ.  Serve less spicy varieties for the children, and offer a choice of pork, beef or lamb sausage to make sure there’s something for everyone.  If your guests prefer something a little less hot, then pork and garlic sausage, beef and tomato or pork and basil sausage are really tasty barbequed.
Alternatively, barbeque a pork and mustard sausage, place on a bread finger and top with plenty of onions and tomato sauce for a scrummy home-made hot dog.

Dinner guests
For a fun themed evening hold an Italian themed dinner party.  Serve a first course of tagliatelle with thinly sliced Italian sausage and dress with olive oil and fresh garlic.   For a main course try oven baked garlic sausage rings, new potatoes, and green beans and plum tomatoes. Finish with a home made tiramisu.  Serve Italian red wine and finish with espresso coffee and you have a really fun gourmet meal.

Tips
Once you’ve decided on the menu make a shopping list, it’s easy to forget a main ingredient! Shopping online makes things easier and you don’t have to negotiate rush hour traffic or the busy high street shops.  Give plenty of notice to your guests so they can arrange transport and baby sitters.  Most importantly relax, have fun and enjoy the evening!!

Pick up a good cook book written by your favourite chef and you’ll have the basic recipes covered.  Whatever meal you’re serving, a little bit of fore-thought and planning will make all the difference to your entertaining or everyday family meal.  Enjoy!!
